Dr Sherina Balaratnam talks Vaginal Rejuvenation with FemiLift at London Bridge Plastic Surgery

What is FemiLift and vaginal tightening?

Since the vaginal wall contains collagen fibres, over time these can stretch and cause the vaginal wall to lose elasticity. This can cause a reduction in enjoyment of sexual intercourse. As well as a normal part of aging, this reduction in elasticity can be increased after child birth. Women may also notice that urinary incontinence occurs. Another consequence of the loss of elasticity in the vagina can be repeat vaginal infections which are debilitating and distressing.

New technology has allowed us to offer a revolutionary technique for tightening the vaginal walls. Using a laser to stimulate collagen growth, the FemiLift tightens the vaginal wall, thereby restoring a more youthful feel. It also helps reduce urinary incontinence. In addition, feedback has shown that the FemiLift also helps those that suffer from dryness and recurrent vaginal infections.

The FemiLift

Q: Are there any requirements prior to having FemiLift treatment?
A: Prior to having any treatment you will need to have an up to date Pap smear result (within 12 months). This will be reviewed during your consultation to ensure your suitability for treatment.

Q: What happens during the treatment?
A: After a consultation to ensure that you are suitable for the FemiLift, the procedure is quick and painless. Using a speculum, a small rod containing the laser is gently inserted into the vagina. It is then carefully pulled back so that the laser covers the full length of the vaginal wall. It does not hurt and is over very quickly.

Q: What happens after the treatment?
A: Following the procedure it is recommended that you do not have sexual intercourse or use tampons for approximately five days to allow the vaginal wall to settle. There is no other restriction and no pain.

Q: How many treatments will I need?
A: Most patients require just 1 or 2 treatments to achieve long lasting improvement in both sensation and urinary incontinence. If you have severe laxity you may require 3 or 4 treatments every 4 weeks to achieve the optimum result. Following your Consultation with our specialist you will be prescribed 1 or more treatments as indicated.

Q: How long do the results last following the FemiLift Treatment?
A: The Femilift treatment provides long lasting improvement in vaginal sensation and control of urinary incontinence. Results generally last from 18 months to 2 years depending on your individual health and pre-existing laxity.

Q: What are the costs?
A: The number of treatments that are required for each individual will vary. This will be determined at your Consultation. A course of two treatments is from £3200. Additional individual treatments from £1600.
